Kino-Charts der deutschen Schweiz

Once again, what we're watching on the big screen here in the German-speaking part of Swissland.

1. Sin City
2. Bewitched
3. Snow White
4. Madagascar
5. Land of the Dead
6. Must Love Dogs
7. Guess Who
8. The Skeleton Key
9. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
10. Die Höhle des gelben Hundes

In case you're wondering, number three is not Disney's animated Snow White, but rather a live-action Swiss movie about how screwed-up young Swiss people are. And naturally all the screwed-up young Swiss people are eating it up.

Die Höhle des gelben Hundes (or, The Cave of the Yellow Dog) is Byambasuren Davaa's follow-up to 2003's The Story of the Weeping Camel. As far as I can tell, Davaa sees the anthropomorphization of animals as the best way to get Western audiences interested in non-Western cultures. It's not the most direct route, and it may even be a bit cynical, but it seems to be working. I smell Oscar nomination #2.
