Ice Age

7.5/10. Watched this last night taped off TV. It was shown uncut, commercial-free, widescreen, and in English.

I'm no fan of computer animation -- I must be one of six people who doesn't like the Toy Story and Shrek movies -- but I enjoyed Ice Age.

First of all, it's very funny. The character Scrat, who opens the movie, is hilarious; and the interplay between Ray Romano, John Leguizamo and Denis Leary is consistently amusing. (Is it a coincidence that
Leary is also in A Bug's Life, the only other computer-animated movie that I like?)

Also impressive is the animation, which avoids
superrealism in favor of a distinctive style full of odd angles (e.g., the mammoth's tusks) and offbeat character design (e.g., Sid the giant ground sloth, who looks very little like a giant ground sloth).

Yay! I liked Ice Age, too. Whoever thought "Ray Romano, John Leguizamo and Denis Leary: stars of a kids' animated feature!" is some kinda wacked out genius in my book.
