Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang

7.5/10. Saw this yesterday afternoon at the Capitol in Bern.

I enjoyed this mix of Hollywood satire and noir homage, with its snappy dialogue, energetic direction and engaging leads. Especially pleasant are the moments when the movie sets aside its convoluted (and, frankly, unsatisfying) story and focuses on its characters. (Robert Downey Jr. and Michelle Monaghan have a few particularly nice scenes together.)

But it's easy to imagine this movie rubbing some people the wrong way. It's ironic and self-aware sense of humor could easily strike some as just smart-assed and smug. And while clearly the work of intelligent people, it has no higher purpose and utterly fails to change the world.

So, for some of you, a smart and satirical diversion. For some of the rest of you, perhaps one to avoid.

Ah, le retour de Shane Black. I guess you're not reviewing here, but I'd be curious what you thought about it.

You're not the first person to ask about it, so it seems a review is in order. I'll muster up something tomorrow at work!
