Fuck Da PTC

During last Saturday's Eagles/Saints game, a camera caught a glimpse of a Saints fan wearing a T-shirt with "Fuck Da Eagles" written across the front. Seeing this, I turned to my wife and said, "Brent Bozell is not going to be happy about that." And sure enough, America's most stupifyingly ass-backwards organization has responded with yet another act of pure irrelevance. From the IMDb news:

Fox TV has issued an apology for showing a fan wearing a T-shirt emblazoned with the words "F**k da Eagles" during its coverage of last Saturday's game between the Philadelphia Eagles and the New Orleans Saints. A Fox Sports spokesman said that the program aired live, without the usual 3-5 second delay. "It was unintentional, inadvertent, and we apologize," said spokesman Dan Bell in response to complaints from numerous religious and conservative family-activist groups, including Brent Bozell's Parents Television Council, which has spearheaded the battle against indecent speech on television.

On Tuesday, Tim Winter, executive director of the PTC, issued a statement saying, "There is no doubt that this was an intentional airing of patently offensive language on the public airwaves." He added: "We are calling on our members across the nation to file formal indecency complaints with the FCC, and we urge the commission to take swift and decisive action to protect the public airwaves from those who are abusing their privilege to use them."

The only thing more infuriating than the fact that this "incident" wasn't simply allowed to vanish into the ether of the past is the knowledge that there are people out there who will actually respond to Tim Winter's "call" and file complaints with the FCC. There are a million things going on in the world that should inspire public activism. The word "fuck" appearing on TV for half a second is not one of them.
