Brokeback Mountain

7.5/10. Saw this yesterday afternoon at the Club in Bern.

I haven't read the short story on which this is based, but it's easy to imagine the power it has, with what must be an intense focus on its two protagonists. However as a 135-minute movie with numerous subplots and characters, the power of its protagonists' story is diluted.

Also, while all opinions are subjective, from the start this movie was at a particular disadvantage with me. I simply don't take it for granted that thwarted love ruins lives; I need to be convinced, and for all its merits, Brokeback Mountain didn't convince me.
