The Squid and the Whale

7/10. Watched this on February 8 on DVD.

It's well-made and features a half dozen strong performances, particularly from Laura Linney and young Owen Kline. But as far as movies about quirky, dysfunctional families go, it offers not much that's new. And its abrupt ending -- after less than 80 minutes -- left me wondering about many of the characters, and not in a good way.
