Kiss Kiss, Dumb Dumb

It's been a while since I've written anything about the movie industry, so today I thought I'd post a link to something written by someone else.

It’s not just that shallow is popular — we all learned that lesson in high school — it’s that the entire system is ass-backwards. The best films hardly play at all while the worst play everywhere. The widest release for The Squid and the Whale has been 151 theaters. Meanwhile something called The Cave opened in late August in 2,195 theaters. It disappeared after 37 days with 15 million of our dollars. Someone call the cops.

The article also mentions the terrific Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang. The Squid and the Whale is one thing -- but Kiss Kiss was an action/thriller with broad appeal and a well-known cast, yet it was never given a wide release. Today its gross stands at $4.2 million; meanwhile, The Squid and the Whale has grossed $6 million.
