Match Point

8.5/10. Saw this Saturday afternoon at the Bubenberg in Bern.

I guess most people prefer his "earlier, funnier" movies, but my favorite Woody Allen movies are the ones where he unleashes his serious side. So I'm happy to report that the cynical thriller Match Point is worthy of comparison to such masterpieces as Another Woman, Crimes and Misdemeanors, and Sweet and Lowdown.

Happily, audiences are encouraging Allen to stay on this solemn path. By the end of its run, Match Point will have earned more at the U.S. box office than any of his movies since Hannah and Her Sisters twenty years ago. And worldwide, the $15-million movie has earned more than $57 million.
