The Descent

The good news is that The Descent will be released in the States later this year. The bad news is that it will be shown with its original ending chopped off. I can't go into detail without spoilers, but take my word for it: this is an unfathomably stupid move on the part of U.S. distributor Lions Gate (right up there with the dubbing of Haute tension).

It's not just a matter of simply replacing a strong ending with a lesser one. By causing the movie to end several minutes earlier, they're leaving the dramatic arc of the main character incomplete and reinterpreting the meaning of a key sequence. In other words, they are ruining the movie.

:-O

Do you have a source for this? It's one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard!

The first thing I came across was this message board thread at IMDb (which is ONE GIANT SPOILER, so watch out):

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0435625/board/nest/34534909

Of course I then sought out other, more reliable sources. And unfortunately, it really does appear that they've gone and done it, the bastards.

Yes. In fact, if the truncated version ends up in U.S. theaters, I recommend that all my American brothers and sisters wait for the proper version to come out on DVD.
