Brick

8/10. Saw this Saturday afternoon at the Splendid in Bern.

We know that the behavior of teens is hugely inspired by what they see in movies and on TV, yet it's often hard to see where the teen ends and the pop culture begins. By presenting otherwise recognizable modern teens acting as if they've just stepped out of a 40's film noir, Brick pushes the role-playing to the forefront. The result is a highly-original crime movie that's also a thought-provoking look at people built from the outside in.

Good point! I hadn't considered that angle, but it's a trenchant observation. That's right, I said trenchant!
