Casino Royale

8.5/10. Saw this last Saturday afternoon at the Alhambra in Bern.

I'm hardly a James Bond fan, which may have something to do with being introduced to the character by Roger Moore. Yet although seeing Dr. No and From Russia With Love helped me appreciate the character more, I still haven't seen all of the Sean Connery Bonds. Nor have I seen the George Lazenby Bond or all of the Pierce Brosnan Bonds.

In other words, when it comes to Daniel Craig as Bond, I'm not equipped to compare and contrast. So I'll disengage from that whole debate and say simply that not only is Casino Royale a first-class spy thriller -- better even than the terrific Bourne movies -- it's also one of a small number of Hollywood movies I've seen this year that I would enthusiastically sit through again. Don't miss it.
