Jersey Girl

7/10. Watched this Wednesday evening on DVD.

The other Kevin Smith movie I hadn't yet seen (see here).

Not only did this movie not deserve the beating it took in the wake of Gigli and "Bennifer" (how could it have?) it's proof that when he's given a chance, Smith can make movies for people who aren't part of his View Askewniverse. Jersey Girl is, along with Dogma and the great Chasing Amy, one of the director's strongest movies.

It must be very difficult for Smith to finance movies that don't appeal to his fan base. And the box-office failure of JERSEY GIRL certainly didn't help.

I don't think we'll get another serious movie from Smith for a while. However, I read somewhere that his next project will be a horror movie, so he's still trying to branch out.
