The Fog (2005)

3.5/10. Watched this yesterday morning on DVD.

Watching this uninspired remake, I realized it isn't the story that makes John Carpenter's original a classic. It's the execution.

Both movies tell essentially the same story, which frankly isn't even a particularly original one. But the first movie also has mood, pacing, suspense, class and wit, plus a compelling and diverse ensemble cast.

Without these things, this new Fog is just another dull PG-13-rated ghost story for the "Dawson's Creek" set (which would be true even if there weren't an original to compare it to).

Cool, then we can discuss how the new movie's resolution doesn't make any sense.
