I Walked With A Zombie

7.5/10. Watched this Friday evening on DVD.

The horror movies that Val Lewton produced for RKO in the 40's aren't nearly as exploitive as their titles suggest, and this may be the most extreme example. Those expecting flesh-eating ghouls will instead discover a stylish and stirring adaptation of Jane Eyre set in the West Indies. So far, it's my favorite of the Lewtons I've watched (see also: The Leopard Man and The Ghost Ship).
