Horror Hotel

7.5/10. Watched this Wednesday evening on DVD.

A trio of academics stumbles upon a village of witches in this terrific thriller from 1960. Simple but effective production design (it was, astonishingly, filmed entirely on sets) and atmospheric black-and-white photography make this an eerie treat. Seek it out.

This is known as The City of the Dead in the UK, which I suppose makes that its "real" title since it was made there. But the version I saw was called Horror Hotel. Also, this movie is in the public domain, so there are lots of sub-par discs out there. I watched the disc from Roan, which looks and sounds pretty good.
