La collectionneuse
8/10. Watched this Tuesday evening on DVD.
This was Rohmer's first color movie, and the first of his "Moral Tales" to be shot on 35mm. And compared to "La boulangère de Monceau" and La carrière de Suzanne, which were shot in black-and-white on 16mm, La collectionneuse practically leaps off the screen.
But beyond simple technical considerations, one gets the impression of Rohmer having developed a better sense of how to use sound and image to tell his "Tales", which he originally wrote as short stories. For the first time in this series, his brilliance as a director is on display.
