The Body Snatcher

8/10. Watched this yesterday evening on DVD.

My Halloween pick was this superlative spooker from producer Val Lewton and director Robert Wise, starring Boris Karloff as the titular snatcher. At the time, Wise was still a novice -- this was just his second feature -- but his direction here is impeccable. And Karloff's performance is so strong, it's hard to believe that he never won an award for his acting.

The Body Snatcher is on a DVD that also includes Jacques Tourneur's terrific I Walked With A Zombie. I encourage you to seek it out.
